FAMILIES in Terrell County

Keepers at Home Girl's Club

Meets the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month and is lead by Mrs. Debby Sapp and Mrs. Kathy Slappy.

Young ladies of all ages laugh and learn together while gaining valuable skills.
This year, we'll be studying diligence, herbs (medicinal and culinary), gardening, flowers, food preservation, embroidery, kabbadi, and possibly plastic canvas.  Of course, each year, we strongly encourage the young women to earn their Bible Reading and Bible Memory badges. These are necessary to get the Finisher's Award at the end. We'll also be encouraging the girls to finish their Others badge if they have not.Whether or not your daughter has been in girls club in the past, they are welcome to join with us this year.  We'll meet on 2nd and 4th Fridays from 1 - 3 p.m.,  but in August, we're having our beginning meeting on the 21st of Aug and the second meeting on the first Friday in Sept, Sept. 4th. After that, we'll start with the 2nd and 4th Fridays. Girls need the Keepers at Home book; the Diligence character trait book; a bracelet with the Keepers girls replica OR the sash with the Keepers girl pin; a notebook with paper in which to keep the information about herbs, flowers, etc.; and the badges at the end of the year.  There will be other minor expenses along the way, but Kathy and I will work to keep those at a minimum. Since we're studying gardening this year, I'd encourage you and your daughter(s) to be considering where she'll have her garden. Remember, it can be container gardening and containers can be cat food buckets, etc.One thing we're hoping to make is a drying rack. For this, the girls will need at least 6 fairly straight limbs that they can tie together in a ladder shape. They'll dry herbs or flowers on this. Each limb needs to be at least 3 feet in length.  So, when you find these limbs, don't burn them as I did just the week before Kathy and I decided to do this. :D Do go ahead and cut off smoothly any little twigs that grow off the limb and then let them be drying.
