Who are we?
F.A.M.I.L.I.E.S. of the Greater Albany Area
F.A.M.I.L.I.E.S. stands for Fathers And Mothers Imparting Lasting Interrelated Educational Support.
Long name but here is the breakdown.....
Fathers - serve as the head of the home with a key role in casting family vision. FAMILIES seeks to provide an opportunity to build relationships with other homeschooling dads and affirm their God-given role in the family.
And - since typical homeschooling involves more than one member of the family, FAMILIES desires to foster multi-generational learning by providing an authentic sense of community by which each person in the family is strengthened and encouraged.
Mothers - typically carry the primary role of teaching and day to day training within the homeschool environment. FAMILIES promotes fellowship, conferences, and resources to build up and support homeschooling moms.
Imparting - means to give or communicate knowledge. FAMILIES activities are focused on providing a learning-rich environment where people are encouraged to use their gifts and talents to mature their Christian walk as well as raising up others in their growth. Because we feel that excellence is an essential component in the process of planning, FAMILIES believes that leadership is to be raised up first before committing to a particular event or activity.
Lasting - focus on the values of building lasting relationships and educating our children to the glory of God so that they will be equipped to carry out their God-given destiny.
Interrelated - for a similar purpose. We believe that when families come together with a common goal and purpose, serving one another with diverse gifts and talents will lead to the benefit of all and the glory of God. FAMILIES also sees the influence and benefit of serving the homeschool community at large.....even throughout the nations.
Educational - with the goal for all things to be summed up in Christ. Believing that character and education go hand in hand, the same standard of excellence is emphasized in geography as it is with manners.
Support - each other by developing authentic relationships that go beyond the events "into the trenches" with prayer, accountability and service to one another.
What do we do?
Tied into "Who we are?" is "What do we do?"
FAMILIES hosts several different events throughout the year which seek to foster relationships between homeschooling families. By building relationships between families, we provide support for each member of the family.
We seek to strengthen the role of the father in each family by striving to schedule events when dads can be included and involved. We want to help dads to realize their role in the educational lives of their children.
We also seek to support moms by providing needed learning opportunities for them along with chances for them to "recharge their batteries" in encouraging seminars. Seminars and workshops on educational, homemaking, and spiritual topics are planned for both moms and dads.
We also seek to build networks with all of the homeschool groups in our area. By working together and sharing information, our groups can offer so much more to our individual members without "burning out" our leadership.
But, most of all, our goal is to glorify God in all that we do. We believe that as we pray for each family and encourage one another, the Body of Christ is strengthened. By serving others, we model a Christian walk to our children that they can emulate as they mature in their faith.
FAMILIES is committed to serving all homeschoolers in the South Georgia Area in a Christ-like manner.
